HISTORY

adept, 1.adjective: thoroughly proficient: expert.
2. noun: a highly skilled or well-trained individual
Etymology: New Latin adeptus alchemist who has attained the knowledge of how to change base metals into gold, from Latin, past participle of adipisci to attain, from ad- + apisci to reach. Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

The Adeptus Arts Logo combines the ancient alchemist’s symbol for fire with an emerging seedling reaching toward the sun, bursting with possibilities.

In 1998 Timothy Hochstetter and Kelly Munn created Adeptus Arts in order to manage and market Hochstetter’s creations. The first Adeptus Studio was in the artist’s residential garage where welders and other metal equipment vied for their elbow room amongst hot glass tools. In 2001 Adeptus Arts expanded adding a bay to the garage and purchasing state of the art hot glass equipment. By 2003 Adeptus Arts had once again run out of working space and was interested in a permanent gallery. In April 2004 Adeptus opened its doors at 38 Bee Brook Road Washington Depot in the heart of Litchfield County Connecticut. The 2000 square foot space houses a hot glass shop, metal working studio and adjacent gallery.

Adeptus Arts has become a destination for collectors, seekers, friends and artists. A hub of creativity and limitless possibilities lay within offering objects of art, resources for designers of all kinds and encouragement for those on their own creative journey.
